homemade chile powder
Between Taco Mondays, lamb kebabs and enchiladas, this house goes through a BIT of chile powder. Recently, as the mister was shaking out the last of our store-bought c.p., he mentioned in a casual, off-hand way that, you know, we could just make our own. Alton Brown did, so we could, you know, pick up some dried chiles and make some.
I love moments like that.
Usually, I'm the one suggesting crazy schemes to make stuff that most people buy at the megamart (to quote AB). But, this beautiful and fragrant mixture was all Toby's idea. And, he toasted and pulverized as you see below. All I did was cuddle with a freaked-out Jacky (our blender is viciously powerful and VERY LOUD)... and then swoop over to give the mixture a delighted sniff.
People, this stuff is insanely good, good, good. Knocks the pants off store-bought.
Recipe here.
